Armoured Cables

Cables have some elements like copper, insulation, screen, sheath. If we want to protect the cable from environmental effects, we have to use armour layer. These environmental effects can be impact, cutting or rodents. Armour is available for all cable types. For example, Energy cables, control cables, instrumentation cables, railway cables, marine cables can have armour. Standards like IEC 60502, BS 5467 explain us about the kinds of armour types such as SWA (Steel Wire Armour), STA (Steel Tape Armour), SWB (Steel Wire Braiding). Generally, armour is applied between bedding and sheathing. Construction of armour depends on diameter under armour. There are two pictures below. First picture is about Steel Wire Armour, second picture is about Steel Tape Armour.

Construction:

1. Conductors: solid or stranded bare copper.
2. Insulation: PVC
3. Twinning: Two coloured insulated conductors twisted together to form a pair.
4. Inner Sheath: Flame retardant, low smoke and halogen-free polyolefin, coloured black.
5. Armouring:
CWB: copper Wire Braid
SWB: Steel Wire Braid
SWA: Steel Wire Armour
6. Outer Sheath: Thermoplastic PVC compound. UV resistance, hydrocarbon resistance, oil resistance, anti
rodent and anti termite properties can be offered as option. Compliance to fire performance standard (IEC 60332-1, IEC 60332-3, UL 1581, UL 1666 etc) depends on the oxygen index of the PVC compound and the overall cable design. LSPVC can also be provided upon request.
Cat5E F/UTP: These cables have collective shielding of aluminium/Polyester tape with drain wire.
Cat5E SF/UTP: These cables have double collective shieldings of aluminium/Polyester tape & copper wire braid.
